Founder, Vireak Kong
The Beehive School began one and a half years ago with Vireak and his only will to develop a project of education for all. He learned English when he studied in the Thailand border and worked in a hospital. As a tuk tuk driver, he always meets tourists from all over the world, which allowed him to learn French and German. The classes were initially for the children of Vireak’s family, but he soon started inviting his neighbours’ kids to join. They started inviting their friends… and now, the 60 students from the community, aged from 5 to 25 years old, belong to the Beehive School.
Vireak is the official teacher of the school: he is always there, dry season or rain season, to share his knowledge with the local children. He is supported by native-speaking volunteer teachers, who are a mix of long-term volunteers, travellers and expats. When they arrive to the school each day they are welcomed by a crowd of smiling faces running towards them.
